Carlos Ovares
Carlos Ovares is internationally recognized as a choreographer, teacher, actor and dancer. He is a graduate of the School of Dramatic Arts of the University of Costa Rica, of the Higher School of Dance and Choreography of the Theater Institute of Barcelona, Spain and has a degree in Artistic Teaching from the State University at a Distance.
He has danced for the Contemporary Ballet of Barcelona-Spain, Pilottanzt of Vienna-Austria, Theaterhaus Stuttgart-Germany; University Dance of the University of Costa Rica and National Dance Company of Costa Rica, as well as choreographer for different dance projects in Madrid-Spain, Amsterdam-Netherlands, Bates College in Lewiston, Maine-United States and for the Québec Youth Ballet in Montreal-Canada.
As an actor, his curriculum includes performances in more than thirty national plays directed by renowned theater directors.
He was director and choreographer of the Cía. Dance Chamber UNA and from 2003 to 2007 directed the National Dance Company of Costa Rica.
His awards include First Place in the Ricard Moragas Dance Festival in Barcelona-Spain, the 1994 National Dance Award for best choreography, as a dancer and choreographer in the VII Choreographic Contest of Madrid-Spain and the Ancora award as the most representative of Costa Rican dance during the 2003-2004 biennium delivered by Grupo Nación S.A.
Currently, his contribution as an educator, choreographer, teacher of contemporary dance, ballet and theater in educational projects in the community of Quepos stands out.
Carlos Ovares is the founder and director of the Artistic Collective and School of Contemporary Dance Corpóreos de Quepos.
